Services in Smart Manufacturing: Comparing Automated Reasoning Techniques for Composition and Orchestration (04b Atto di convegno in volume)

Monti Flavia, Silo Luciana, Leotta Francesco, Mecella Massimo

In recent years, there has been an increase interest in using intelligent methods to control manufacturing processes. Tens of resources to be modeled and offered as services through Industrial APIs, may be used in these processes and orchestrated throughout the various supply chain companies. The orchestration must be flexible and adaptable to disruption since the status of the various services/resources changes over time in terms of their cost, quality, and likelihood of failure. Due to the large amount of services involved and the complexity of their behaviors, manually making judgments quickly becomes impractical, necessitating the use of automated solutions to resolve the issue. By relying on the resources information provided by proper Industrial APIs, we can make current supply chains flexible and robust. In this work, we investigate the potential and limitations of automated reasoning techniques to enable adaptivity and resilience in smart manufacturing.
