o.TitleTransformative Robotic Methodologies in HealthcareAbstractThe integ
ration of robotics into healthcare has ushered in a new era of precision\,
efficiency\, and improved patient outcomes. This talk explores the transf
ormative role of control theory and advanced robotic methodologies in mode
rn healthcare\, including interaction force estimation and control\, dynam
ic simulation\, haptics and haptic rendering\, and state estimation of inf
inite-dimensional systems. After providing a general overview of the topic
and highlighting my contributions to the field\, the presentation will of
fer a detailed analysis of the design and implementation of an innovative
robotic system for superficial hyperthermia\, from concept to experimental
validation. Additionally\, ongoing research related to this system will b
e discussed\, focusing on the development of non-invasive temperature esti
mation of human body internal tissues through the combination of control t
heory and artificial intelligence methods.Short bioMarilena Vendittelli re
ceived the PhD in Systems Engineering in 1997 from Sapienza University of
Rome. From April 1997 to October 1998 she held a post-doctoral position at
LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse (France)\, supported by two Marie Curie Research Tr
aining Grants. From 1998 to 2016 she was with DIAG\, first as post-doc and
then as Assistant Professor (2001-2016). From 2017 to 2019 she was with t
he Information Engineering\, Electronics and Telecommunications Department
as Associate Professor and in 2020 she (re)joined DIAG. She has been a Vi
siting Scholar at Carnegie Mellon University (2005)\, the Courant Institut
e of New York University (2012) and the Simons Institute at UC Berkeley (2
016). From January 2010 to December 2013 she served as Associate Editor fo
r the IEEE Transactions on Robotics. She was Registration Chair for ICRA 2
007\, and member of the National Organizing Committee of the 18th IFAC Wor
ld Congress. She serves in the program committee of numerous international
conferences\, including the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and
Automation (ICRA) and the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligen
t Robots and Systems (IROS). She was one of the two General Chairs of I-RI
M 3D 2023\, the annual scientific event of the Institute of Robotics and I
ntelligent Machines. From 2021 to 2023 she was an appointed member of the
Scientific Board of the Institut des Sciences de l'Information et de leurs
Interactions (CNRS Sciences Informatiques\, CNRS-INS2I)\, a research inst
itute of the French CNRS. She was a member of various PhD committees in It
aly and abroad\, a member of the Scientific Research Committee for the eva
luation of Sapienza research projects (2011-2012)\, a member of the panels
for the evaluation of European projects within the H2020 program. Her res
earch interests involve both control theory aspects of robotic systems and
applications to the medical and service robotics fields.
